Goal Diggers: Show Your Team Some Support in Your Email Signature

28 May 2026

Two weeks to go. In a fortnight, football fans around the globe will be glued to the screen, shouting advice at people who can't possibly hear them, and holding opinions about offside that they could not defend in a court of law.

You, meanwhile, will be sending emails. Dozens of them. Each one carrying a signature that has not so much as pulled on a pair of boots since the day it was created.

It's time to get that signature off the bench. We're not saying it's a goal-den opportunity. We are saying it, though. Loudly. With a vuvuzela.

Why bother?

Fair question. Here are some very reasonable answers.

You send a lot of email. Every message you send carries your signature along for the ride. That is a lot of tiny chances to wave a flag in front of someone who might just be supporting the other lot.

It shows you have a personality. A little team spirit tells the person on the other end that there's a real, friendly human behind the keyboard, and not just an auto-reply that has been sitting in goal since 2019.

It's low effort. Showing support in your signature costs you no face paint, no scarf in thirty-degree heat and no argument with the referee. It's the easiest way to cheer from your desk without spilling your coffee on the keyboard.

Pick your side

We've made a whole squad of football signature templates, and the line-up is long. There are 48 countries, and every one of them gets two cards: a Classic and a Bold. That's 96 templates in total, which is more than a full match day's worth of substitutes.

The Classic is the tidy one. A clean white card with your country's flag, a header in the team's colours and a football tucked into the corner. It's the signature equivalent of turning up to the match in a smart jersey and ironed shorts.

The Bold is the one for the supporters who have already lost their voice. A full-colour card in the colours of your country, with a tilted flag and a football pitch laid out behind it. It's the signature equivalent of painting your face and then painting the neighbour's.

You'll find the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Morocco, Australia, England, Scotland, South Korea, Türkiye, Côte d'Ivoire, Czechia, Cabo Verde and DR Congo in there, and that's before you get to the other thirty-five. Whoever you're backing, and however loudly, there's a card with your name on it. Or rather, your country's name on it, and your name underneath.

Prefer to support the underdog? There's a card for that. Torn between two countries because of where you were born and where you live? We can't fix that, but you can always change your signature at half-time.

A few things to shout at the telly

We couldn't help ourselves. Consider these a free kick. Please take them.

  • Why did the football team go to the bank? To make a deposit in the back of the net. (We know. We're booking ourselves for that one.)
  • Why are footballers so good at email? They're always ready to forward a message.
  • What's a goalkeeper's favourite sort of email? One he can save for later.
  • Why do footballers always look so cool? Because they're surrounded by fans.
  • Why did the striker keep checking his inbox? He was hoping for a good cross.
  • What do you call a team with no ball? A loss for words.
  • Why did the referee read every email twice? He wanted to be sure there was nothing offside.

We'll see ourselves out. Actually, no, we won't. Substitutions are for other people.

The part where we mention SigMonster

Here's where we get a little practical, and only a little.

If you're the one who looks after signatures at your organisation, you already know the real challenge has nothing to do with the football. It's chasing every single person to copy, paste and fiddle with their own signature, and then discovering that Gary in accounts has somehow added a fourth font. And a flag. A flag of a country that isn't even playing.

That's the sort of own goal we'd rather avoid.

With SigMonster, you can pick a themed template, put it in place, and update everyone's signature at once across your organisation. No chasing. No copy-and-paste. No Gary. (We like Gary. We just like consistent fonts more.)

And with a different team in every office, a different card for each person is easy too. The Spanish speakers in sales can wave one flag, the Scots in support can wave another, and everyone remains perfectly civilised about it. Probably.

When the final whistle goes and it's time to go back to business as usual, you can switch everyone back just as easily. Or keep the flag. We won't judge. It seems happy.

Give it a go

The tournament only comes around once every four years, and the clock is already ticking. Don't leave your signature until the last minute and then spend the opening game in a panic, pacing the corridor like a nervous manager.

Have a look at SigMonster's football signature templates, choose the country and style that make you grin the most, and put your signature on the team sheet.

Your signature has been quietly standing there all year. It deserves a jersey.

Good luck to every team from all of us at SigMonster. Stay friendly, stay sporting, and remember: it's not about who wins, it's about who has the best-looking email signature.
