No Bones About It: Your Signature Needs a Halloween Makeover

26 October 2026

Let's get right to the point. Actually, let's get right to the skeleton of the matter: your email signature needs a Halloween makeover, and there are no bones about it.

Halloween lands on 31 October, which means you have a few days to stop your inbox from looking like it's still stuck in the middle of the year. Your colleagues have carved pumpkins. Your neighbour has put up a fake cobweb. Your email signature, meanwhile, has been wearing the same beige outfit since forever.

Time for a change. Don't be a scaredy-cat about it.

Why bother?

Fair question. Here are some very reasonable answers.

You send a lot of email. Every message you send carries your signature along for the ride. That is a lot of tiny opportunities to make someone smile on a Tuesday afternoon.

It shows you have a personality. A small seasonal touch tells the person on the other end that a real, friendly human is behind the keyboard, and not just a ghost in the machine. (Sorry. We'll try to rein it in. We won't.)

It's low effort. A little festive flair costs you no talent, no pumpkin-carving skills and no spooky decorations that you'll find in your carpet until March.

Friendly, not frightening

We're talking about the cute end of the spooky spectrum.

Think friendly ghosts who just want to say hello. Think smiling skeletons with excellent posture. Think pumpkins with grins so goofy that they could only be selling you something wholesome.

The aim is to make people grin, not to make them check under the bed. If your signature gives anyone a fright, you've gone too far. If it gives them a groan, you've gone exactly far enough.

A few things that go bump in the inbox

Because we couldn't help ourselves, here is our very best material. You're welcome.

  • Why don't skeletons fight each other? They don't have the guts.
  • Why did the skeleton go to the party alone? He had no body to go with.
  • What do ghosts serve at their parties? Ice scream.
  • Why are ghosts terrible at telling lies? You can see right through them.
  • What's a skeleton's favourite instrument? The trom-bone.
  • How do you know when a ghost is about to send an important email? They sign off with "Boo-st regards."

We'll see ourselves out. Actually, no, we won't. We're staying.

The part where we mention SigMonster

Here's where we get a little practical, and only a little.

If you're the one who looks after signatures at your organisation, you already know the scary part of a seasonal update has nothing to do with Halloween. It's chasing every single person to copy, paste and fiddle with their own signature, and then discovering that Gary in accounts has somehow added a fourth font.

That's the sort of horror we'd rather avoid.

With SigMonster, you can pick a themed template, put it in place, and update everyone's signature at once across your organisation. No chasing. No copy-and-paste. No Gary. (We like Gary. We just like consistent fonts more.)

And when 1 November rolls around and the pumpkins have gone back to being soup, you can switch everyone back just as easily. Or keep the skeleton. We won't judge. He seems happy.

Give it a go

Halloween only comes around once a year, so don't leave it until the last minute and then spend the evening as a ghost of your former self.

Have a look at SigMonster's Halloween signature templates, choose the one that makes you grin the most, and give your emails a festive touch before the 31st.

Your signature has been quietly standing there all year. It deserves a costume.

Happy Halloween from all of us at SigMonster. Stay spooky, stay friendly, and remember: it's not a scare if everyone's laughing.
